சென்னையில் நேற்று நடைபெற்ற ராஜஸ்தான் ராயல்ஸ் அணிக்கு எதிரான ஐபிஎல் ஆட்டத்தில் தோனியின் அதிரடியால் சென்னை அணி 175 ரன்களை குவித்தது. தோனி 46 பந்துகளில் 4 சிக்ஸர், 4 பவுண்டரிகளுடன் 75 ரன்கள் எடுத்து ஆட்டமிழக்காமல் இருந்தார். இதன்பிறகு விளையாடிய ராஜஸ்தான் அணி, 20 ஓவர்களில் 8 விக்கெட் இழப்புக்கு 167 ரன்கள் எடுத்தது. இதனால் மிகவும் பரபரப்பாக நடைபெற்ற ஆட்டத்தில் 8 ரன்கள் வித்தியாசத்தில் வென்றது சென்னை அணி. இதையடுத்து புள்ளிகள் பட்டியலில் சிஎஸ்கே அணி 6 புள்ளிகளுடன் முதலிடத்துக்கு முன்னேறியுள்ளது. இத்துடன் 8 அணிகளும் 3 ஆட்டங்கள் விளையாடியுள்ள நிலையில் சென்னை அணி மட்டுமே ஒரு தோல்வியும் அடையாமல் உள்ளது.

சிஎஸ்கேவின் வெற்றியை அடுத்து, சமூகவலைத்தளங்களில் ரசிகர்களும் கிரிக்கெட் நிபுணர்களும் தோனியைக் கொண்டாடி வருகிறார்கள். தோனியின் தலைமைப் பண்பினால் தான் சிஎஸ்கே அணிக்கு வெற்றி கிடைத்துள்ளது என்று அனைவருமே வெற்றிக் காரணமாக தோனியைக் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்கள். அதன் தொகுப்பு:
